District Administrator Rhine-Erft District

“Security is one of the most important issues of our time and, for me as District Administrator, part of my daily work. For me, this also clearly includes the security of our citizens in the digital world. Most of us use digital media several times a day, conduct our banking transactions via the Internet and make purchases online. Even though we all know that various dangers lurk on the Internet, we often treat our personal data carelessly, sometimes, unfortunately, with far-reaching consequences.

I welcome the cooperation between the eco Association and the police of the Rhine-Erft district, because it provides valuable assistance to victims of a crime and informs them about the current schemes of cyber criminals. This information comes from professionals, is free of charge and is aimed at all citizens. But it is also an extremely attractive information platform for our small and medium-sized companies.

I’m glad that our police are working with the eco Association on this project for the safety and protection of citizens in the Rhine-Erft district.”

“Following in the footsteps of Cologne and Leverkusen, we are delighted that ‘Smart-and-Safe-in-the-Internet’ (SUSII) – the prevention wing of eco – Association of the Internet Industry, in cooperation with the Criminal Police – is now also coming into effect in the Rhine-Erft district. Not just private individuals, but also businesses – and here in particular our small and medium-sized craft enterprises – are increasingly becoming victims of these criminals. We must put a stop to these unscrupulous practices. As such, we wholeheartedly support this measure.”

“Data security and trust are of high importance in an increasingly digitalized world. In addition to the security of sensitive IT infrastructures, this includes in particular the protection of personal data. Sparkassen take their customers’ need for security very seriously and regularly invest in state-of-the-art security technology for their online and mobile banking. Kreissparkasse Köln is therefore also happy to support the ‘Smart-and-Safe-in-the-Internet’ project run by eco – Association of the Internet Industry and the district police, who together provide expert education and damage assistance to make the Internet safer for citizens in the Rhein-Erft district.”

Thomas Habke
Chefredakteur, Radio Erft

“Cyber criminals won’t refrain from operating within the Rhein-Erft district. At Radio Erft, we regularly have to report on cases from the region, receive letters from listeners who have become victims or discuss in our conferences how we can better inform people in the region about the dangers of the Internet. The new Susii portal is, in our opinion, the perfect complementary way to provide in-depth information about cybercrime. That’s why we support the project.”

“In the last few years, citizens and companies have become an increasing focus for cyber criminals. eco and the Cologne Police have recognized the urgency and have come together to establish a project that not only offers first aid and support in the case of damage, but also, in particular helps to prevent the worst of it before it happens, through clarification and prevention measures: So that the data and computers of Leverkusen citizens and companies are kept safe.”
