Cyber criminals often use computer viruses or Trojans for phishing attacks. First check your device to see if it is infected with a virus or Trojan. You will find more information on how to do so on our page Viruses and Trojans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n Contact your bank immediately and ask them to freeze your bank account. <\/p>\n\n\n\n This can also be done at any time of day or night within Germany by calling the emergency number 116 116<\/strong> to block cards or accounts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Ask your bank about any irregularities on your account, such as e.g. unfamiliar bank transfers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Criminals are not just after your bank account, but are also very interested in e.g. PayPal accounts. Check your other accounts and change your passwords.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n If you are the victim of a Phishing attack, then report it to the police immediately. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Use a safe second device to file a police report online<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n Phishing perpetrators often look for accomplices for phishing transactions through classified ads and emails. They look for people who will let their bank account be used for the transactions and transfer the money from the victims to the cyber criminal, acting as a middle man. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Ignorance is not an excuse. Such a middle man can be charged with\u00a0money laundering, or concealment of illegally acquired assets according to Paragraph 261<\/a> of the German Criminal Code.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n The police always investigate such “financial agents,” rarely the criminal backers.
